Merry Christmas from ELP!

Good Morning and Merry Christmas! I hope that you are all keeping warm, opening gifts, watching Elf over and over, and most importantly enjoying this time with your family!  I will see you all next week with a peek at a winter wedding, and I will be continuing to reflect on this year.

Have a great Christmas, from our family to yours!

Tis the Season of Engagements

Ames Wedding Photographer

It’s finally that time of the year! December and January are two of the most popular months to get engaged. Seriously. In the past 2 days I’ve seen 5 people’s engagements show up on my newsfeed! How exciting?! To celebrate I though thought it would be fitting to take a look at the past year’s ring shots. Ring shots are seriously my favorite. I just want to make canvases of every single one and put them in my office. But that would be an overwhelming amount of canvases in one tiny room!

Take a look at some of my favorite ring shots from 2013 wedding and engagements. 🙂

Oh, and in case you missed Facebook/Instagram post yesterday, to celebrate engagement season I am offering 200.00 off any wedding collection booked between now and December 31!

Weekend Recap | Ames Wedding Photography

Hello hello! I know, I know, this post is SUPER late. (I really don’t have an excuse other than being busy with school!) But it’s still here, and it includes a gorgeous sneak peek! Other than Jon & Whitney’s wedding and driving in a snow storm, this weekend was pretty uneventful so I don’t have much to say.

Jon & Whitney’s wedding was the first wedding I have photographed this year where the bride and groom were good friends before we even talked about wedding photography! It was so fun to be a part of their special day. Their blog post will be up next week, but for now here is a sneak peek of their gorgeous Christmas-y wedding. (Yes, I just made Christmas into an adjective. No, I’m not sure if that’s allowed 😉 )

David & Brittany | An Ames Iowa Wedding

He stood in the frigid wind patiently waiting for her arrival. After what I’m sure seemed like ages, she finally came through the campanile and tapped him on the shoulder; his cue to turn around. The moment he saw her his smile radiated joy.  Their whole day played out perfectly, with abundance of time for them to just soak in each other’s love, as well as the love from their family and friends.

David and Brittany, allowing me to document your wedding has blessed me in so many ways. Your love for Christ, each other, and your friends and family made your day so special to capture. Thank you so much for allowing Jamie and me to be apart of your day!

Weekend Recap | Ames Wedding Photography

It’s Monday! AND it’s Thanksgiving week, which means I am on break all week. I am spending all week in Sioux City because I haven’t gotten to come home with out working since school started. Needless to say, I’m so excited to spend time with my family this week! I have decided to take a small break from blogging as well, so today’s post will be the only post for the week.

But back to the weekend recap!

This weekend was so cold, but SO great! David & Brittany were married in Ames on Saturday. Their wedding was perfect even though the temperature was in the single digits most of the day. I cannot wait to share their full wedding with you next week, but for now here is a gorgeous sneak peek.

Sunday was spent hanging out with family, pets, and culling/editing. I ended the day by having a meeting (via Google Hangout) with Mark & Megan to talk about wedding photography. Mark & Megan are getting married next July in Spokane, Washington and I am so honored to be shooting it! I can’t explain how excited I am for this amazing opportunity! Shooting a wedding.. in the mountains?! Gah… so excited! What a wonderful way to end an already wonderful weekend.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday, and enjoy this time with your families!

Cassie & Mike | An Ames Iowa Couple’s session

Confession: I FORGOT IT WAS THURSDAY! Ah! But it is Thursday, which means I am super late with this blog post! Good thing I get a break from school next week.

You met them on Tuesday when I shared a sneak peek from a mentoring session where Mike and Cassie were models. I’ve said this before, but they were seriously the best models ever! So cooperative and so in love which made my job easy peasy! I promised I would share their full session, so here it is 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend friends!

Mentoring Sessions

I’ve been staring at a blank page for 30 minutes, wondering how I am going to start this post. A whole post about mentoring sessions?! It certainly makes a whole lot of fears and self-doubt creep into your mind, that’s for sure. I feel like I JUST started my business. Who am I to think I can teach others about how to start theirs?! Thankfully I have a loving, supportive, and encouraging husband that pointed out that this is not true! The thing is, if I believe this I don’t think the  “right time” to start teaching  will ever come.  I’m approaching the mark of being in business for 2 years. (Woah, that’s crazy!)   I will never have all of the answers, so what’s the point of having all of these fears? I was humbled, and equally shocked, when Vanessa contacted me about doing a mentoring session. I met Vanessa at Rachael & Ty’s wedding this past June and she is such a sweetheart!  She requested a session that focused on using a camera manually, as well as posing! She even found models for us! Cassie & Mike were amazing, by the way. They made it so easy for me 🙂  ( I will share my favorite images of them on Thursday, so keep your eyes peeled) Doing  this session  has given me the confidence I needed to start officially offering mentoring sessions! These sessions will be completely tailored to your needs! So whether you’ve never switched your camera out of Auto, or you’ve been shooting for a while, these sessions are for you. My plan is to officially launch this part of my business in January (Goodness, 2014 is going to be an amazing year!). However, if you are interested in having a one-on-one mentoring session with yours truly now, please head on over to my contact page and write me note 🙂

Here are a few images I got of Vanessa doing her thing!

Rob & Johanna | A Denison Iowa Wedding

As my wedding season winds down, I continue to have such amazing brides and grooms! Rob & Johanna’s day was simply beautiful. The fall weather, their love for one another, and the love their family and friends have for them was all perfect. Johanna is one of the sweetest girls I have ever met, and their families and friends were no different! I felt as though I had known them all for years. Rob & Johanna originally chose to stay traditional, and not see eachother before the ceremony. However, a couple weeks before the wedding I got an email from Johanna asking if they could do a first look instead! They ended up choosing to do a first look, so we did portraits before and after their ceremony. We had SO much time for portraits, and I loved it! That is just one of the many reasons why first looks are SO great! Enjoy my favorite highlights from this gorgeous fall wedding! Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer Sioux City Wedding photographer

Weekend Recap | Ames Wedding Photographer

Why hello there internet, and happy Monday! I hope you all had as great of weekend as I did! Seriously, I loved this weekend. There were so many great things that happened! So in order to keep my thoughts straight I will make a list of highlights 🙂

Friday Notables:

  • Tyler and I had a date night that included dinner at a restaurant we’ve never been to in Ames. We ended our night by shopping. Recently, one of my favorite photographers, Abby, posted about her super adorable schoolboy blazer from J.Crew. It’s seriously so cute! We set out to find one for myself, and we were successful! It needs to be taken in just a smidge. Maybe once I get it altered I will post some photos of how cute it is!

Saturday Notables:

  • I spent most of the day working, but after work Tyler and I set out to grab a few quick portraits of me. I have never appreciated fall as much as I have this year. It’s so beautiful!

  • After portraits I had my first in home client consultation EVER! I know this doesn’t seem that big, but trust me it was HUGE! I’ve always been self conscious about our tiny little apartment, but I went for it. I even included hot chocolate and the Ingrid Michaelson Pandora station. Everything about it rocked. SO much better than sitting in Starbucks and having to speak over the espresso machines and baristas calling out peoples’ names.Ames Wedding Photographer
  • To end the night, Jamie and I had a sister date, and then came home and watched several episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. It’s now on my list for shows to watch after Pretty Little Liars.

Sunday Notables:

  • I again spent most of the day working, but after work I got to have my first mentoring session where I was the mentor! I loved it! There’s a reason why I chose a major that involves teaching. I am so stoked to incorporate this into my business. This session was completely tailored to what Vanessa wanted to learn about. We worked mostly on using her camera manually, as well as posing. She did so well, and we had amazing models! I will be doing a blog post specifically geared towards mentoring at a later date, but I just wanted to give you a small glimpse into what it consisted of. 🙂Ames Wedding PhotographerAmes Wedding Photographer
  • To end our Sunday, Tyler and I went on a double date with our good friends Michael and Liz. We enjoyed Olive Garden’s soup, salad, and bread-sticks while we planned our Summer 2014 Road Trip! (Well Liz and I mostly planned while the boys complained about how far away it was 😉 )Ames Wedding Photographer

I hope you all had great weekends as well! Keep your eyes peeled for some gorgeous shoots coming your way this week!

Bec & Luke | An Ames Engagement Session

They met in Australia. Crazy right?! What’s even more crazy is that Bec is from Australia, and Luke is from Alaska. They drove all the way from Omaha, where they are both living now, to do their engagement session! The day before their session it had rained in the morning and then cleared up and turned out to be in the 60’s. It was such a beautiful day, and I was so hopeful this would be the case for their session the next day. Unfortunately, that was not the case! It was in the 40’s, and cloudy. Thankfully this didn’t ruin Bec & Luke’s time. This was one of the most fun sessions I have ever shot! I think Bec & Luke giggled the whole time, and their love for one another was so radiant. It made my job pretty easy 😉 And the sun decided to make an appearance at the end of their session, which was just the icing on the cake! Since travel has been a huge part of their relationship, we decided to incorporate it throughout their session. Also, they’re both messy people (Bec’s words, not mine 😉 ), so a Holi-powder fight was necessary to end their session. Enjoy some of my favorites from their session!
